Prime Day Is Not a Deal — It’s a Distraction. Here’s Why We’re Sitting It Out.

Another Prime Day is here. Your inbox is probably stuffed with “LIMITED TIME ONLY” banners, countdown clocks, and flashy promises of 50% off things you didn’t even know you needed.

But at Earthinary, we don’t celebrate Prime Day. We question it.

The Real Cost of Cheap

Prime Day isn’t just about discounts. It’s a perfectly engineered machine of overconsumption — designed to make us buy fast, think less, and fill our carts with impulse buys under the illusion of a “deal.”

But let’s ask: A deal for who?

  • Not the planet. Mass production to meet Prime Day demand accelerates emissions, packaging waste, and carbon-heavy shipping practices. Most of these items end up as landfill within a year.
  • Not the workers. Behind the “Buy Now” button is a supply chain built on exploited labor, inhumane warehouse conditions, and small businesses struggling to compete.
  • Not your values. You’re not just buying a product — you’re buying into a system that thrives on urgency, extraction, and planned obsolescence.

But Isn’t Sustainability Expensive?

We get it — sustainable products often cost more upfront. That’s because they’re made ethically, with better materials, fair wages, and minimal environmental impact. They’re designed to last — not to break after 3 uses.

Prime Day might look cheaper on your wallet today. But the planet, the people, and even your future self are picking up the tab.

Let’s Redefine “Good Deals”

At Earthinary, we believe a good deal is:

  • Knowing where your products come from
  • Supporting brands that put people and planet first
  • Buying less, but better
  • Spending mindfully, not reactively

So no, we won’t be running a “Green Prime Day” this year. We’re not slapping 30% off stickers on products to feed a system we’re trying to redesign. Our mission is to slow things down, not speed them up.

What You Can Do Instead

  1. Unsubscribe from the hype. Opt out of the marketing frenzy. Say no to the pressure to buy things you don’t need.
  2. Audit your actual needs. What do you really need right now? If the answer is “nothing,” that’s powerful.
  3. Support ethical businesses year-round. Don’t wait for a flash sale. Conscious brands rely on steady support, not FOMO-driven shopping.
  4. Repair, reuse, repurpose. Extend the life of what you already own. That’s the ultimate discount.

A Better World Doesn’t Come in 2-Day Shipping

Prime Day wants to sell you more. We want to help you need less.

So this week, instead of clicking “Add to Cart,” try clicking “Close Tab.” Go outside. Have a conversation over tea. Make something. Fix something. Give something.

Because the best things aren't on sale.

Earthinary is a platform for conscious living. We champion sustainability, ethical production, and low-impact living — not just in what we say, but how we operate and who we partner with. No greenwashing. No gimmicks. Just real change.
